We are delighted to share some wonderful news with our school and wider community. This week, Scoil Naomh Chaitríona was sanctioned a Special Class for pupils with autism, which will open in September 2026.
 
This is a very proud and important moment for our school. In Scoil Naomh Chaitríona, happiness, safety, love and learning come first, and this new class will allow us to extend that care, support and sense of belonging to even more children and families in our community. Every child deserves a place where they feel valued, understood and able to thrive, and we are excited to begin preparing for this next chapter.
 
Over the coming months, the school will begin the process of getting the classroom ready, including applying for grants to adapt and equip the room, provide specialised resources, and support staff training, so that the environment is welcoming, supportive and tailored to pupils’ needs.
 
Admissions Process
 
Before admissions can open, our Admissions Policy has to be updated to include the special class and approved by our Patron. Once this is complete, we will advertise the opening date for applications here on the website and Facebook. Applications will be made through the school website.
 
Information for Families
 
Applications for the special class will require:
 
*A diagnosis of Autism (DSM-IV/V or ICD-10/11) from a psychologist, psychiatrist, or multidisciplinary team
* Professional reports outlining the child’s level of need
* A clear professional recommendation that a special class placement is the most appropriate setting, with rationale
* A letter of eligibility from the NCSE confirming the child is known to them and recommending a special class placement.
