ICT in Scoil Chaitriona

ICT and Digital Learning at Scoil Chaitríona
At Scoil Chaitríona, we are proud to provide a modern and dynamic learning environment where technology is used to enhance teaching, support learning, and prepare our pupils for the future. Our school is equipped with high-speed broadband, a fleet of laptops, and a class set of iPads, which are integrated across all class levels and subjects.
We strongly believe that technology, when used effectively, can spark creativity, boost engagement, and help every child reach their potential. From researching topics and creating presentations to using educational apps and learning to code, our pupils are encouraged to become confident, capable digital learners.
In recent years, we have also made significant investments in STEM education, including:
-
Coding initiatives across the senior classes
-
LEGO Education kits to support hands-on learning in robotics and engineering
-
Participation in STEM-based programmes and challenges that promote problem-solving and teamwork
These resources allow pupils to explore science, technology, engineering and maths in practical and exciting ways, helping them develop critical thinking and collaborative skills from an early age.
This progress has been made possible through a combination of Department of Education funding, local fundraising, and generous community support. We were especially pleased to benefit from the:
"Grant Scheme for ICT Infrastructure for Primary and Special Schools – 2023" (Circular 0025/2023)
This funding is provided under the Digital Strategy for Schools to 2027 – Enhancing Teaching, Learning & Assessment.
It supports the development of effective and sustainable digital learning practices by providing for the purchase of digital technology equipment. The grant enables schools to embed digital technologies in teaching, learning and assessment and to build on the good progress made to date.
This school received a grant in 2021 to implement initiatives aimed at addressing the digital divide and support our learners at risk of educational disadvantage as a consequence, as part of the Irish National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) a project under the Recovery and Resilience Facility funded by the European Union through NextGenerationEU. This funding was used to … (please give examples of some of the uses for this funding, per the criteria outlined in circular 0060/2021).”
At Scoil Chaitríona, we are committed to embracing innovation, using technology purposefully, and ensuring that every child is equipped with the skills, creativity, and confidence they’ll need to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
